The South Cook County Mosquito Abatement District (SCCMAD) is seeking talented candidates for the position of Assistant Director. SCCMAD is a local government agency that surveys and controls mosquitoes, disease vectors and vector-borne diseases in the southern portion of Cook County, Illinois.

The Assistant Director is responsible directly, or through delegation, for the smooth operation of the front office. The Assistant Director assists with establishing and overseeing District policies and procedures, including assistance with matters related to human resources. The Assistant Director is responsible for the maintenance and accounting of all financial business for the District, including the annual management and preparation of the District Budget and Levy. The Assistant Director works with and reports to the Director and the District Board of Trustees. The Assistant Director is required to attend and participate in all District Board meetings.

This position is a full-time position. The normal business hours of the District are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of local government operations, ability to lead, supervise and evaluate personnel.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience preferred.
  • Experience in Illinois public sector (special district preferred) accounting and/or payroll is preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Ability to use office equipment which includes a computer, copier, fax machine, shredder, printer, typewriter, and a calculator.
  • Must possess and exhibit excellent organizational skills.
  • Must be able to obtain a current State of Illinois Notary Public Commission within six months (6) of hire and maintain as current.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, accounting, finance or closely related field from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
