Job Opening for Biologist

The South Cook County Mosquito Abatement District is seeking a Biologist with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Biology or Entomology. Experience preferred but not necessary

The Biologist at the South Cook County Mosquito Abatement District performs a variety of laboratory and field services including surveillance for mosquitos and mosquito transmitted pathogens.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ability to effectively operate a cost-effective mosquito control program by sorting and identifying insect samples from surveillance devices and accurately record samples (willingness to learn)
  • Professionally present complex information to diverse audiences (media, government agencies, conferences, schools)
  • Ability to work in the field under adverse weather conditions safely and effectively
  • Supervise and train 10-15 seasonal workers on mosquito management
  • Excellent writing and communication skills/willingness to work with others
  • 40 hours a week position (10-Month employee) with extended hours/overtime as needed during mosquito season
  • Required computer skills
